Fall 2007 Garlic Planting
Back to the main herbs page.

Fall is the ideal time for planting garlic. The days are still hot here in
the High Desert, still averaging 90*F, but the nights are in the cool, crisp
50-60*F range. The early mornings are delicious!
Garlic likes well dug, deep beds with excellent drainage and lots of organic
matter. Last year (Fall 2007) I planted garlic in raised beds. This year,
since I have a lovely fenced in garden now, I will plant them in a semi-raised
bed in the ground.
Both this year and last year I purchased my seed stock from
http://www.TheGarlicStore.com.
As you can see by the photos below, they provide large, healthy bulbs. They
are well packed and shipped at the perfect time for planting. We'll
see what these look like during harvest time in 2008!

Siberian - Large, purple striped hardneck; hot and spicy. I planted
this variety in the fall of 2006 and it was my best producer for the summer
of 2007.
