Time & Distance
Everything takes more time in the country, partly due to the fact that everything is
further away. And not just the grocery store, but the garage, the fence, the gate, the
dogs' pen, the eclectic meter. The list goes on and on.
The first thing that I learned is that you don't just get in your car or truck
and "go" anywhere. First, you have to put the dogs in their pen,
because even going to the post office is an hour long affair, and two big dogs
can't be left alone in a house too long without causing some mischief. This
takes some amount of time because the dogs' pen is 100 feet from the house,
the doberman has a tendancy to head out to the Back Four instead of following me,
and, invariably, when I get there, their 5 gallon bucket of water needs filling
or cleaning. But before you even head out the door, you have to put on boots
or the sand will invade your feet. And if you are going somewhere where you
have to wear "nice" clothes, you will have to change after you put the
dogs out.
