I like the "Ying & Yang" of the ice contrasting with the pebbles. This was taken on top of a hill near our house (no rocky gravel at our place - only sand).

During the winter of 2005, we crossed the Sierra Nevada every few weekends so that we could visit the Reno/Carson City area and look for an area we wanted to live in.

The pass near Kirkwood is often closed during the winter either for snow removal or avalanch abatement. The bet was to always see if it would be open by the time we got there in the late morning. On this day, we hung around waiting for several hours.
